Lessons from a Shopping Mall

On a cloudless summer day in suburban Chicago, a woman put her two children in the car and drove to the shopping mall. There she met one of her best girlfriends, who also came to the mall with her kids.

The group of two moms and four kids spent the whole day at the mall, having lunch in the cafeteria and then leisurely strolling, shopping and people watching. An afternoon movie in the attached theatre and malted milkshakes at the ice cream parlor finished off the mall excursion before the women drove back to their respective homes to prepare dinner.

These two women absolutely loved the mall. In their minds, it was one of the greatest places on Earth. After all, the mall was exciting, full of the latest and greatest retailers, a state-of-the-art movie theatre and plenty of free parking. Even better, the climate controlled indoor environment made it possible for a whole day of shopping and entertainment without being subjected to Chicago’s often extreme weather. No doubt about it; the mall was THE place to see and be seen.

That was 1968. It was the heyday of the enclosed regional shopping mall in America.

Here’s how this story might read in 2011:

A well-educated, working mom is able to duck out of her office for a couple hours at lunch to catch up on some long-deferred errands. With the kids in school, it’s her chance to actually get things done. That’s critical, because evenings and weekends are filled with dance lessons, soccer practice and select-league baseball games that often require the family to spend weekends at out-of-town tournaments.

Her challenge is to fit a whole day’s slate of errands into two hours. She drives her minivan to the power center located along the freeway. There she takes advantage of a 30%-off discount card she received in the mail from Kohl’s department store before stopping by the Wal-Mart Super Center to stock up on non-perishable consumables mostly manufactured in China. She takes care of mailing packages and dropping off dry cleaning at her friendly mega grocery store’s customer service counter.

Next, she speeds over to the lifestyle center, an outdoor mall with heavy landscaping, upscale national-chain retailers and a nice-but-fake-looking faade. There she purchases high-end cosmetics (the all-natural kind that are never tested on animals) and a dress for the coming weekend’s formal dinner. Before jumping in the minivan, she grabs a double latte, a little reward for getting so much done so quickly. She must head back to the office and cram in her work before picking up the kids from their after-school program.

Indeed, times have changed.

As the lives of retail customers have evolved, the retailers and the shopping mall owners have had to change in order to keep up. Today’s harried shopper simply doesn’t have the time to spend the whole day at the mall. Speed and convenience are critically important. Shoppers still want luxury and entertainment, but they have to be easily accessible and located close to homes or offices.

Consequently, we now see many of those old malls, the ones that were gleaming and glorious in 1968, being torn down and replaced with big-box retailers, open-air lifestyle centers and mixed-use “walkable” villages.

A perfect example is Randhurst Mall built in 1962 in the Chicago suburb of Mt. Prospect, Ill. According to Midwest Real Estate News, the once-popular Randhurst is now desolate, so crews are demolishing most of it to make way for a mixed-use center that will be home to offices, a hotel and a bunch of entertainment businesses in addition to an updated mix of retailers.

Retailers and retail landlords either keep up with the trends or they die.

Well, retailers certainly aren’t alone, are they? Your business needs to adapt too.

Keep in mind that, as a person, you are essentially a business. You are a business of one, a business unto yourself. In a lot of ways, you (as a business of one) have much in common with retailers. Like a retailer, you are selling a product (yourself). Like a retailer, you want to portray your product in the most desirable way while making it extremely convenient to your customers. Like a retailer, you must adapt to the changing needs and preferences of the public.

Regardless of what you do for a living, you must place your clients on a pedestal. Their needs and wants are not only paramount, they’re moving targets.

Are you doing whatever it takes to keep up? Are you willing to tear down a 1960’s-era mall and replace it with one of today’s hot new shopping developments? Stay ahead of the trend or risk being squashed by it!

Shopping Tips For Graduation Dresses

Graduation dresses like we have mentioned above does not necessary have to be the long oversized dress that people wear for the graduation ceremony. They could also be the dresses we choose to wear underneath the graduation gowns. These kinds of dresses are important particular for every girl and or woman who will be graduating on that particular day. Everybody wants to look good on their graduation day simply because you may never get the chance to graduate again and even if you do, it will not be for the same reason and or academic level like the previous one. People do engage themselves in a lot of shopping before the graduation day so as to adequately prepare for the occasion and to avoid any last minute rush. But when you are out there shopping for your graduation dresses, you want to keep the following factors at the tips of your fingers so as to get the best dress.

Color of the dress. You want to consider the color of the graduation dresses you are thinking of getting if it will go well with the color of the graduation gown. Most schools will have black graduation gowns thus you could go for any color of dress but there are schools which have other kinds of colors for the graduation gown thus the need to keep this in mind.

Price of the dress. Good dresses that you could wear for your graduation day do not come cheap at all. But this does not mean that you have to settle for the worst kind of dress. You could still get the kind of dress that you want for the cheapest price ever only if you employ wise shopping skills. You want to shop from local stores that are cheap in their prices than from high end markets that are expensive in their prices.

Consider the length and design. The graduation dresses that you want to you want to go for should be a little bit shorter than the graduation gown. You do not want the two to compete for the little attention you will be getting from people. That is why you want to keep the length of the dress short for people to notice the two and at the same time go for a design that is simple.

There is a lot more to consider when choosing graduation dresses than what we have mentioned above.

Is The Shopping Genie A Scam Shopping Genie Review

Is The Shopping Genie A Scam?

When I first took a look at the shopping genie over a year ago I was not impressed. Having been around the network marketing field for a little while I have learned that company’s come and go and just because something is ground floor does not guarantee you to make money. The shopping genie at that time was not that old and was only affiliated with eBay and you could only make money when somebody bought something on eBay.

Recently I took another look at the company as there was quite a lot of buzz going on. I had heard that more affiliates were jumping on board and that the company added a few twist to the equation. You could actually earn click commissions when giving the shopping genie Application away and you could also co brand your business or opportunity on top of the shopping genie.

Let me touch on the click commissions first. If you are familiar with how Google makes its billions, they generate income from people putting their ads on the search engine. This is called pay per click advertising. As people search the internet and click on those adds, a pre-determined amount of money is charged to the add placer who in turn pays Google for that click. With the shopping genie, it works the same way only you get paid for driving traffic to the website no matter if the person buys or not.

The nice thing about this is that you are driving that person to find the lowest price on whatever they searched for on the internet so you are saving them money and you are making money every time they start comparing and clicking on links inside the Shopping Genie.

The second feature is the co branding. What this allows a distributor of the Genie to do is brand their website on top of the Genie so every time someone does a search online that they give a genie too, their business/website comes up on the front page of that search engine without paying the costly pay per click advertising. Now if you go back to the previous paragraph, this would normally cost big bucks to be on the front page of Google but because this application actually rides on top the search engines, you pay nothing.

So after combing over this for quite some time, I can tell you that the Shopping Genie is not a scam. The company is now over 3 years old and is only getting better. They are adding the Macintosh and IPhone version of the application shortly so if you were thinking of joining, I would get positioned now. You do not even have to be qualified to make money in this opportunity. You can simply give the Genie away and make money that way or you can work both angles and sign up other people who want to give the genies away themselves.

One thing I wanted to mention when looking at something like this. You want to pick something with not a lot of competition and something that is unique. There are plenty of powders, pills, and juices out there but unless you want to have to sell something to make money and have 100s of other companies and reps giving you competition then I would really consider something like the Shopping Genie.

There is not anything like this patented technology of the shopping genie. People are going to search online and want to find the lowest price so that leaves me to believe that this is a stable company with some huge potential for anyone that gets involved. It is not some $200 auto ship of juice or pills, it is simple $199 for a one time license and then just $29 a month. With the average Genie that you give away netting you an average of $3 a month, you can see that your $29 dollars can be covered fairly easily by just giving away about 10 or so Genies. I have been in a couple of networks and never seen one with this low a monthly payment and start up cost.

I hope this answers your question if the Shopping Genie is a scam or not. If you would like a Free shopping genie for you to try for yourself, you can download it here.

Whatever you decide to do, make sure that you get involved with a supportive team when you join an opportunity like this. The folks over at http://ourteamrocks.com were the most professional that I have seen and have all the necessities to get a business like this up and running fast.

the Office’ Star Mindy Kaling Puts Off Writing Script, Goes Shopping Instead

The Office star Mindy Kaling recently flew to her hometown Cambridge, Massachusetts to visit her parents and do what she loves the most, which is to shop. Kaling was supposed to be writing the script for The Office’s fourth season when she visited Newbury Street and began shopping.

“I cant believe that I put off this writing,” the 28 year old actress said in a conversation with Boston Herald. “We had five weeks to write it and Ive waited until the last week because I was too busy shopping and hanging with my boyfriend. I cant believe how incredibly irresponsible Ive been.”

Kaling is known for playing the ditzy customer service representative Kelly Cooper on The Office. Her interest in writing comedy sparked after she took a satire class at Buckingham Browne & Nichols School during her junior year.

“It was a crash course in all things comedy and it was amazing,” she said. “That course itself, in my mind, is worth the tuition for all four years at BB&N.”

A couple of years after graduating from Dartmouth, Mindy Kaling wrote and starred in a satirical play in which Greg Daniels, The Office executive producer, discovered her. Immediately, she was placed in the show and is currently one of the most beloved characters in American television.

The third season finale saw Kaling’s Kelly getting dumped by her boyfriend who stepped up the corporate ladder. Moreover, Kaling says that the audiences will see a more aggressive Kelly in the fourth season of the show.

“I think that Ryan is in for it,” Kaling explained. “I dont think Kelly would even know where the phrase hell hath no fury is from or even know what that means, but were going to see that literally enacted upon Ryan, which I think is going to be funny to see. My character is kind of such a sweet ditz, so to see her be scorned and turned into Medea will be really fun and a challenge as an actor.”

Kaling also let us in on what’s coming up on the fourth season. She said that a past character will be coming back for the show’s fourth season. “We get to see a character who we think is no longer going to be on the show any more,” she said. “Someone who we think is long gone. They make an appearance so I was excited about the script.”
